Training/ Certifications
Our apprentices learn through both classroom and on the job training in what is considered by many to be the best industry program in the country. The five year apprentice period is divided to into one-year segments , each of which includes 1700 to 2000 hours of on the job training and a minimum of 246 hours of class room courses. All of our apprentices receive a strong general education in the trade with courses in basics such as mathematics, science, drafting, welding and other pipe trade related courses. At a certain point apprentices choose a specific path to follow to be trained as a journeyman plumber, pipefitter/welder or HVACR technician.
UA Local Union 72 in conjunction with our signatory contractors fully fund and oversee our Joint Apprenticeship Training Trust. At Mechanical Trades Institute our apprentices learnthrough the classroom at what is considered by many throughout the country to be one of best training programs and as well as through on the job training. We offer a five year training program with a combination of classroom, hands on and online training for plumbers,pipefitters and HVACR technicians. At the completion of the five year program our apprentices have accrued a minimum of 8500 on the job hours and over 1200 hours of classroom training. All of our apprentices receive a strong general education in their trade of choice with courses in basics such as math, science, drafting,welding and other pipe trade related courses. A large emphasis is placed on safety as a culture not only ion the workplace but in all aspects of life.
Local Union 72 apprentices are trained by instructors that are members of local union 72 that have years of field experience themselves installing the systems that they are teaching and teach using the newest technology both in the classroom and through specially designed online courses . Local Union 72 journey workers have a long history of mentoring and sharing their experiences with our apprentices and guiding them into a comfort zone to one day become a certified journey worker in a career that is both highly rewarding and fulfilling. Local Union 72 understands that our future is contingent upon the success of our apprentices and continuously strives to enhance and improve the training opportunities that are afforded to our apprentices.
